RUN TO HELP OTHERS READ ON OCTOBER 4, 2014!
The Glenwood Canyon Shuffle Race for Literacy takes place the first Saturday in October, usually accompanied by some of the nicest early fall weather. The Shuffle (as it is called amongst the regulars) is special, indeed, as it meanders along on the bike path in the very scenic Glenwood Canyon along the Colorado River.
Enjoy just a part of it and run or walk the 5k one-way course from Grizzly Creek to No Name or get the whole canyon experience and run the half marathon route from the start of the canyon to No Name. All ages and levels of participation are welcomed! Transportation is provided to the race starting line so it is predominately downhill to the finish but on a gentle grade. This year’s race will be held Saturday, October 4, 2014.
Volunteers are needed to help the day of the event and to help plan the event. If you would like to help out with this fun, annual, outdoor experience, call the Literacy Outreach office at 945-5282. Register online at RunningGuru.com or drop off a completed form Registration Form. Run to help others read!
2103 Cold Weather Brings Fast Times
Glenwood Canyon Shuffle Race for Literacy
Snow dusting the canyon walls and leaves changing colors set the scene for a fast race at the Glenwood Canyon Shuffle Race for Literacy on Saturday, October 5. With a blistering time of 1:16:37, Kevin Donoher of Grand Junction led the field of runners finishing first in the half marathon. Local runner Josh Hejtmanek finished second with a time of 1:18:32. Followed by another local running star, Candelario DeLuera, in third with a time of 1:32:10.
Another homegrown runner, Abbey Walter, led the women in the half marathon in a time of 1:33:39. Andrea Bauer placed second for the women and Rachel Fuller placed third.
Despite the weather earlier in the week, sunny skies prevailed at the finish. Recently relocated from Alabama, Caitlin Miner led the women in the 5K and came in second overall in a speedy time of 20:37. Local running standout Heidi Vosbeck placed second for the women and Laurel Lamont in third.
Not minding the cool temperature Brad Snyder finished first overall in the 5K in a time of 20:33. Not running his usual long distance race, former Literacy Outreach volunteer tutor and new father, Craig Burger finished second for the men. Brad Palmer finished third in the men’s division.
